Was bleibt ist der Katalog, in dem zeitgenössische Künstler und Denker den Imaginationsraum Asien erschließen. In Bildstrecken und Essays werden die Spannungen zwischen Tradition und Moderne erkundet. Die künstlerischen Arbeiten umfassen u.a. Chiho Aoshima, Subodh Gupta, Andreas Gursky, Kimsooja, Michael Joo, Gabriel Orozco und Song Dong, die theoretischen Texte u.a. Dipesh Chakrabarty, Ranjit Hoskote, Carol Yinghua Lu and Wu Hung. For over 400 years now, ritualised forms of acting have been handed down from father to son, until the successful film and television actor Nakamura Kanzaburo devoted his life to introducing Kabuki to the age of the mangas and animés and making it world famous. What remains is the catalogue, in which contemporary artists and thinkers explore Asia as a space of the imagination. The contributors investigate the tensions between tradition and modernity through the visual image and the written word. This collection includes works by artists based in Asia as well as artists from the diaspora, such as Chiho Aoshima, Subodh Gupta, Andreas Gursky, Kimsooja, Michael Joo, Gabriel Orozco and Song Dong with essays by Dipesh Chakrabarty, Ranjit Hoskote, Carol Yinghua Lu and Wu Hung among others.
