In Performances, Lesungen, Gesprächen und Filmen präsentiert es künstlerische und soziale Positionen zu den sich emanzipierenden Zivilgesellschaften und hinterfragt Identitäten, Logiken und Praktiken der neuen Öffentlichkeiten. Zur Eröffnung am 12.1. spricht Kurator Okwui Enwezor im Rahmen der Mosse-Lectures der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Do, 12.1. - Sa, 14.1. Eröffnung: Do, 12.1. 18 h, Eintritt frei STAGE 1: SOLOS AND MONOLOGUES Solos and Monologues erkundet in Performances, Lesungen, Tanz und Video die Vielfalt individueller Stimmen aus der zeitgenössischen Kunstpraxis der arabischen Welt. Der Fokus liegt auf künstlerischen Mitteln, die geeignet sind, die Auseinandersetzung von Künstlern mit den sozialen und politischen Veränderungen in der arabischen Welt und den damit verbundenen bürgerrechtlichen und zivilgesellschaftlichen Fragen festzuhalten, zu dokumentieren und zu übersetzen. STAGE 2: CONVERSATIONS: REVOLUTIONS OF THE PRESENT Das Diskursprogramm soll die Lebendigkeit jener Prozesse unterstreichen, die zivilgesellschaftliche Imagination und Auseinandersetzung miteinander verbinden. Nachdem der Zusammenbruch zahlreicher Regimes in der arabischen Welt drängende zivilgesellschaftliche und politische Probleme ans Licht brachte, gehen Wandel und Erneuerung nun weit über die Grenze einer technokratischen "Reform" hinaus. Wo sich die Empörung der Menschen nicht länger in einer bestimmten zeitgenössischen Kunstpraxis Luft machen kann, müssen neue Horizonte konstruiert und erfunden werden. STAGE 3: OMAR AMIRALAY - CIVIC IMAGINATION Die Retrospektive zum Werk des syrischen Filmemachers Omar Amiralay (1944 - 2011) zeigt die Reise eines Künstlers, der sich über die letzen vierzig Jahre eine alternative Gesellschaft vorgestellt und diese dokumentiert hat. Amiralays Filmografie umfasst etwa zwanzig der bedeutendsten Dokumentarfilme der arabischen Welt. Sie gelten als wesentliche Kapitel in der modernen Geschichte Syriens, der Region und darüber hinaus. Zusätzlich präsentiert die Beiruter Filmkuratorin Rasha Salti ein audiovisuelles Filmarchiv des Aufstands in Syrien. Fr, 13.1. + Sa, 14.1. Das HKW empfiehlt: Ulrike Ottinger im n.b.k. Das Jahr 2011 stand ganz im Zeichen von Ulrike Ottinger. Nach der großen Ausstellung im Haus der Kulturen der Welt und der Premiere ihres Filmes "Unter Schnee" bietet sich nun die Möglichkeit, sich ein Bild vom malerischen Frühwerk der Filmemacherin und Künstlerin zu machen. Der Neue Berliner Kunstverein zeigt noch bis zum 22. Januar nie zuvor gezeigte Malereien und Siebdrucke Ottingers aus den Jahren 1963 - 68. n.b.k. In performances, readings, conversations, and films, it presents artistic and social positions on the emancipating civic societies and questions identities, logics, and practices of the new publics. The focus lies on the artistic means that might be able to register, document and translate the ways in which artists, engage with the social and political shifts in the Arab world that turn on issues of citizenship and civil society. Stage 2: CONVERSATIONS: REVOLUTIONS OF THE PRESENT The discursive stage seeks to underscore the vitality of the processes that link civic imagination and struggle. As the collapse of many regimes in the Arab world exposed urgent civic and political demands the current events of change, transformation and renewal move way beyond the frontier of technocratical "reform". Where popular disenchantment can not be confined within a specific contemporary practice, new horizons of the future need to be and are already constructed and imagined. Stage 3: OMAR AMIRALAY - CIVIC IMAGINATION The retrospective on the oeuvre of the Syrian filmmaker Omar Amiralay (1944 - 2011) presents a journey of an artist imagining and documenting alternative civic for the last 40 years. Amiralay,s filmography includes about twenty of the most important documentaries in the Arab world, which are considered essential chapters in the modern history of Syria, the region, and beyond. In addition, Beirut film curator Rasha Salti presents an audiovisual film archive of the Syrian insurgency. Fri, 13.1. + Sat, 14.1. The HKW recommends: Ulrike Ottinger at NBK 2011 was the year of Ulrike Ottinger. Following the major exhibition in Haus der Kulturen der Welt and the premiere of her film "Unter Schnee", art-lovers now have the opportunity to take another look at the artist and filmmaker's early painting work. Until 22 January, the Neuer Berliner Kunstverein is exhibiting previously unshown paintings and silk-screens by Ottinger from the years 1963 1968. n.b.k.
