Der Kunstverein setzt in diesem Jahr die 1998 begonnene Projektreihe ZWISCHENRÄUME fort und öffnet sie, nachdem mit den Klassen von Raimund Kummer, Marina Abramovic und Thomas Huber ein deutscher Schwerpunkt gesetzt wurde, für Akademien in Europa. Der Gedanke bleibt derselbe: Zwischen den Ausstellungen öffnen wir unsere Räume für kurze Zeit für Kunststudenten. Wir verstehen damit den Kunstverein als Nahtstelle zwischen dem Künstler und seinem Werk und dem Publikum. In diesem wechselweisen Dialog wird für uns der gedankliche Austausch an den eigentlichen Nahtstellen zwischen Kunstproduktion und Kunstpräsentation im Bereich der Lehre und Ausbildung von Künstlern immer wichtiger. Allerdings wollen wir nicht noch mehr "Als ob" Ausstellungen von Kunststudenten, sondern die gemeinsame Arbeitssituation der Künstler und unseres Ausstellungsteams als work in progress, im Kunstverein als temporären Zwischenraum, als Atelier, als Studienraum, als Plattform für Gespräche mit Publikum, Kollegen und Kritikern. Als Zwischenraum im Gegensatz zu den definierten Auftritten der ausstellenden Künstler, als andere (räumliche und gedankliche) Basis zu bereits erprobten Situationen an den Akademien. Im Gegensatz zu den einzelnen Klassen und ihren Professoren der HBK Braunschweig ist diesmal eine ganze Akademie vertreten. Dies hat seinen Grund in der besonderen Struktur der Malmö Art Academy. Sie ist eine Kunstakademie für "post graduate students", vergleichbar mit den deutschen "Meisterschülern"~ und dem entsprechend gering ist die Zahl der Studierenden. Es gibt keine von Professorinnen geleitete Klassen, sondern Projektgruppen, die auf Zeit bestehen und sich dann neu formieren. Die Akademie in Malmö gehört im Moment zu den interessantesten in Europa. Daher haben wir die Direktorin Gertrud Sandquist und 21 Studenten der Akademie für ZWISCHENRÄUME #4 eingeladen.
This year the Kunstverein is continuing the series of projects "ZWISCHENRÄUME" which it initiated in 1998. After there was a focus on Germany with the classes of Raimund Kummer, Marina Abramovic and Thomas Huber, a perspective is being opened onto academies in Europe. The thought remains the same - between exhibitions we open our spaces to art students for a little while. Thereby we regard the Kunstverein as a point of encounter between the artist and his work and the public. What is becoming ever more important for us amid this reciprocal dialogue is the intellectual exchange occuring at the actual points of encounter between art production and art presentation in the area of the training and education of artists. We are not, however, looking for even more "as if" exhibitions of art students; rather we strive to present the joint working situation of the artists and our exhibition team as work in progress as a temporary and intermediate space in the Kunstverein, as an atelier, as a space of study, as a platform for discussions with the public colleagues and critics. As an area between borders in contrast to the defined performances of exhibiting artists, as another (spatial and intellectual) basis for situations which have already been tried out in the academies. This time, in contrast to the presentation of individual classes and their professors at the HBK Braunschweig an entire academy is represented. The reason for this lies in the particular structure of the Malmö Art Academy. It is an art academy for "post graduate students", comparable to German "Meisterschüler", so that the number of students is correspondingly small. There are no classes conducted by professors but rather project groups which exist for a while and then reconstitute themselves. At the moment the academy in Malmö belongs to the most interesting in Europe. It is for this reason that we have invited the director Gertrud Sandquist and 21 students of the academy to ZWISCHENRÄUME #4.
