!! wir freuen uns, sie darauf hinweisen zu dürfen, dass Der 2006 in der Baukunst Galerie entstandene Künstlerfilm "Vier zwei Eins" von Noritoshi Hirakawa am Freitag, dem 19.10.07 ab 15 Uhr im rahmen des internationalen Wettbewerbs "bühnenzauber" im Filmclub des Kölnischen Kunstvereins zu sehen sein wird !!
Julian Rosefeldts Filme besitzen eine komplexe Visualität. Sie lassen den Betrachter in aufwändig inszenierte Kulissen eintauchen, die in cinematografischer Qualität auf mehrere Leinwände projiziert sind. Gebannt in Endlosschleifen, bewegen sich seine Protagonisten in schwerfälligen Rhythmen, was der langsam vor- und zurückgleitenden Kameraführung entspricht. Rosefeldt analysiert und ironisiert alltägliche Rituale und Klischees, die er durch die Abkehr der Handlung ins Absurde untergräbt.
The Perfectionist", der dritte Teil der Trilogie des Scheiterns einer Filmreihe, die sich mit dem vergeblichen Bemühen des Menschen um Kontrolle befasst, zeigt auf der linken Leinwand einen Mann, der in einer andauernden Überprüfung seines Fallschirms festgefahren ist. Statt hinaus zu gehen und zu fliegen, gerät der Gegencheck zur manischen Geste: Der Fallschirmspringer wird zum Sisyphos. Parallel ist auf der rechten Leinwand derselbe Darsteller zu sehen, wie er den Fallschirmsprung bei sich zu Hause auf dem Bügelbrett simuliert. Die Lächerlichkeit des dicken Mannes auf dem filigranen Haushaltsgerät wird durch die Aktivierung einer Nebelmaschine unterstrichen, deren Produktion plötzlich nicht mehr zu stoppen ist. Kurz darauf stürzt eine Flugzeugturbine ins Zimmer zugleich bricht auf der linken Leinwand ein Sturm los, der den Mann an seinen aufgeblähten Fallschirm fesselt. Das zentrale Bild der Installation bleibt dagegen ruhig: Ein Pilot betätigt im Cockpit mit routinierten Handgriffen eine Vielzahl an Schaltern, allerdings ohne erkennbares Ergebnis. Rosefeldt kehrt den Unsinn automatisierter Prozesse und kontrollorientierter Zwangshandlungen heraus: Der Traum vom Fliegen scheitert am Leerlauf des Rituals. Sisyphos wird zu Ikarus.
Julian Rosefeldt, geboren 1965 in München, lebt und arbeitet in Berlin. Er präsentierte Einzelausstellungen in renommierten Institutionen, wie z.B. Kunst-Werke Berlin (2004) und Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin (2002) und nahm an zahlreichen Gruppenausstellungen teil, u.a. der 26. São Paolo Biennale (2004), im Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris (2002), der Kunsthalle Basel (2000) und dem PS.1, New York (1998).

!! we are delighted to draw your attention to the screening of the artist film "Four two One" - created by Noritoshi Hirakawa at the Baukunst Galerie in 2006 - in the context of the international competition "Bühnenzauber" at the filmclub of the Kölnischer Kunstverein on Friday, the 19th of October 2007 at 3 p.m. !!
Julian Rosefeldt's films possess a complex visual quality. The viewer is immersed in lavishly staged sets, which are projected in cinematographic style onto several canvases. Caught in a continuous loop, his protagonists move in heavy rhythms, matched by the action of the camera gliding slowly forwards and backwards. Rosefeldt treats everyday rituals and clichés analytically and ironically, subverting them by shifting the action into the absurd.
"The Perfectionist" is the third part of the "Trilogie des Scheiterns" (Trilogy of Failure) a series of films which deals with people's futile striving towards control. "The Perfectionist" shows on the left hand canvas a man caught up in a perpetual inspection of his parachute. Instead of stepping out and flying, this cross-checking becomes an obsessive act: the parachutist has become Sisyphus. Parallel to this on the right hand canvas, the same actor can be seen, as he simulates the parachute drop at home on his ironing board. The ridiculousness of the heavy man on the fragile domestic appliance is underlined by a fog machine being switched on, which all of a sudden can't be turned off. Thereupon an aircraft turbine rushes into the room while on the left hand canvas a storm starts to blow, which welds the man to his inflated parachute. The central picture of the installation meanwhile remains quiet: in a cockpit a pilot flicks a multitude of switches with a practiced hand, without however any discernible result. Rosefeldt underscores the absurdity of automatic processes and compulsive behaviour: The dream of flight flounders on the emptiness of ritual. Sisyphus becomes Icarus.
Julian Rosefeldt, born in 1965 in Munich, lives and works in Berlin. He has had solo shows in famous institutions such as Kunst-Werke Berlin (2004) and Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin (2002) and has taken part in numerous group shows, including the 26th São Paolo Biennale (2004), the Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris (2002), Kunsthalle Basel (2000) and PS.1, New York (1998).
